Arequipa was built from the white sillar rock that spewed out from Misti Volcano, one of a trio of imposing volcanoes looming behind it, due to that is called the “City of White”. The soft, porous quality of Arequipa’s sillar lent itself to make and intricate baroque facades, which combined western motifs of mermaids, grapevines and shells with New World elements such as parrots, papayas and jungle vegetation; the best example of this style is the façade of the Iglesia de la Compania de Jesus near the Plaza de Armas. Arequipa is Peru’s second largest urban area and one of the country’s most prosperous.

The Sacred Condor.- “Watching Andean condor (Vultur gryphus) soar over Colca Canyon, It is easy to see why the Incas and other highland peoples considered it a sacred bird. It flies for hours without flapping its wings using only thermals to spiral so high into the sky that it can disappear from sight. The Andean condor is the largest flying bird in the world, with a weight of more than 10 kg and a wingspan of over 3 meters. But apart from its size, the condor is easy to spot because of the white ruff around its neck, the fingerlike feathers at the end of its wings. The condor’s main food source is carrion, which it is able to detect from thousands of feet up in the air because of its extraordinary eyesight and sense of smell”; written by Peter Frost.
06:30 After an early breakfast, you will be driven to Cruz del Condor to observe the soaring of this majestic Bird; From Chivay to Cruz del Condor is about 60 km (1.5 hours).
